Allergen Management: Implementing new regulations correctly - we support you!
Effective allergen management is essential for safe food. It protects you from public product recalls and the associated damage to your company's image as well as financial losses.
Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 has been amended by Regulation (EU) 2021/382 to include additional obligations for allergen management.
Based on the Regulation and Commission Notice 2022/C 355/01, the german Association ALS/ALTS has published the leaflet "Verification of allergens in the manufacturing plant" to support on-site investigations of positive findings of undeclared allergens.
This explains how the German authorities proceed in case of findings above the respective assessment value if the allergenic ingredient is not listed in the list of ingredients or in the trace labelling.
The following points are checked at the manufacturing plant:
- Verification of allergen labelling in the manufacturing plant; checking documentation of the manufacturing process, supplier certificates as well as specifications regarding the use of allergens.
- Checking compliance with all requirements of Regulation (EC) 852/2004 (company allergen management)
- Further questions to identify the source of contamination if the use of the allergen as an ingredient or processing aid can be excluded.
