Rapid alert systems

Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF)

The European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) is based on the General Food Law Regulation of 28 January 2002.

National coordination centres (in Germany: the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety, BVL) record food safety notifications as well as regulatory food / feed product recalls and correspondingly alert the EU member states. If necessary, the public is informed by the national coordination centres.

All notifications are filed in the RASFF Portal database and published in Germany by the BVL. The affected companies are not mentioned out of consideration for commercial interests.

U.S. FDA Recalls, Market Withdrawals and Safety Alerts

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) publishes detailed notifications regarding recalls, market withdrawals and safety alerts on their website. These do not only cover food, but also e. g. drugs, medical devices and cosmetics. However, the different product categories can be filtered and are thus more easily accessible.
