Germany specifies action value for chlorate

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture has encouraged the relevant authorities to apply the provisional values for chlorate suggested by the EU Commission in June.

 Hence, the following provisional maximum values apply as of immediately:

• 0.1 mg/kg for all products of plant origin listed in Appendix 1 of Regulation EC No. 396/2005 except for vegetables
• 0.25 mg/kg for all vegetables except carrots
• 0.2 mg/kg for carrots

The Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health were not able to agree on a common Europe-wide maximum value, which means that the member states can now specify their own national values.
