Foreign body analytics

In food production, all kinds of foreign body contamination can occur due to a wide variety of incidents in food. Causes range from e.g. direct entry via raw materials (e.g. wood particles, insect parts), internal production processes (e.g. foil residues), damage to production equipment (e.g. metal abrasion, plastic parts), employee errors (e.g. cloths, metal parts) to manipulated consumer complaints (e.g. broken teeth, dental fillings).

Depending on how the foreign body is found (consumer complaint versus internal quality control), it should be identified and ideally the source of entry clarified in order to assess or clarify the legal and/or product relevance.

Depending on the nature of the material, identification can be very challenging and requires considerable analytical effort as well as a high degree of experience. For more than 5 years now, ifp has been offering the analysis of foreign bodies, which has been accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-03 since 2020.
