Along with horsemeat ifp also testing for donkey meat

The molecular biological laboratory at ifp is equipped not only to detect horsemeat but also to test for contamination of meat products with donkey meat. This will provide meat processing companies and meat traders with additional assurance concerning the quality and purity of their merchandise.

The exact origin of the animal meat recently found in horsemeat products declared as beef products across Europe is currently unclear. It can therefore not be ruled out that donkey meat may have entered the food chain as well.

ifp boasts extensive experience in the field of animal identification and uses a broad range of DNA-based detection methods. The Institute not also offers testing for beef, sheep and goat as well as various poultry and fish species, but also for dog, cat, rodent, horse and donkey DNA. ifp is accredited for the entire range of animal species analytics.
