News Archive 200812.12.2008 ImmunoFast® breaks new ground in allergen analysis ImmunoFast® breaks new ground in allergen analysis Fast and reliable screening of allergens in food and raw material is becoming increasingly important. The method of choice in this case is the use of immunological rapid tests in lateral flow format. The antibody-based rapid tests meet the same requirements as enzyme-immunological solid-phase immunoassays (ELISA). The tests feature high detection sensitivity as well as robustness / batch conformity. The specificity (reaction to other proteins) is described in detail.The method is based on the sandwich principle, staining the complexes formed is done with gold particles. If the allergen in question is present, an additional band will appear next to the reference band. GM rice (LL601, LL62 and Bt63) available as real-time PCRFast® probe kits The GM types of rice LL601 LL62 and Bt63 are not permitted in the EU. Even smallest traces are banned from the market. LL601 rice, which is resistant to herbicides containing the active ingredient glufosinate, was developed by the agro-biotech company Aventis CropScience in the 1990s. After various attempts at releasing it in the USA, the development of LL601 was stopped in 2001. With two similar rice lines, LL62 and LL06, however, the idea of commercial use was further pursued. Cultivation and use as food are permitted in the USA. An application for approval of LL62 rice in the EU has been filed. Bt63 rice is resistant to pests as are many GM types of corn and cotton. In China Bt63 rice has been tested in outdoor tests since 2001. In 2002/03 large-scale cultivation attempts were carried out in the province of Hubei. However, despite several announcements, the Chinese authorities have so far not approved BT63 rice for cultivation. Obviously farmers have retained Bt63 seeds from the former cultivation attempts and sewn these in subsequent years. The ifp Institut für Produktqualität offers fast and reliable real-time PCR detection methods for all of the three GM lines of rice mentioned. The tests are very robust and highly precise. Furthermore, users are spared many pipetting steps since the reagents required are already mixed and ready to use. This saves time, and can lower a company’s costs. Chicken pancreatin for the determination of natural folic acid in food now available ifp is currently the only supplier of chicken pancreatin worldwide. Chicken pancreatin is used for the enzymatic treatment of food prior to the determination of its natural folic acid content. The natural folic acid is hydrolysed with chicken pancreatin into folylmonoglutamate or folyldiglutamate. Chicken pancreatin is ideal for microbiological folic acid determination in microtiter plate format (VitaFast®). It is also suitable for the determination of the natural folic acid content using other methods. One bottle contains 500 mg chicken pancreatin and is sufficient for 50 sample treatments. The product is also distributed by r-Biopharm, Darmstadt (www.r-biopharm.com ). ifp extending PCRFast® product line for the detection of wheat and cereals in food using realtime PCR with hybridization probes The ifp Institut für Produktqualität has added yet more parameters to the PCRFast® product line. For the first time realtime probe tests are available for the detection of wheat and cereals. The detection systems are important for European and American allergen declarations and offer nutritional safety to celiac disease patients. The tests include an internal inhibition control with every reaction and also contain homologous standards. The detection systems have been validated against leading ELISA systems in the market and provide reliable results that can be standardized. Rapid test available for the detection of chickpea in hazelnut pastes and other oilseeds Hazelnut pastes may be contaminated or deliberately adulterated with roasted chickpeas. Now a rapid test for the detection of chickpea in hazelnut pastes and other oilseeds and oilseed products is available. The ImmunoFast® test can be used on the spot. ImmunoFast® is simple and safe to use and permits detection of chick peas even below 0.1% (0.1g/100g). Dr. Thomas Holzhauser of Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, joins ifp’s Advisory Council on Food Allergens The ifp thus gains yet another renowned expert in molecular allergology and the detection of potentially allergenic food components. Dr. Holzhauser is head of the research group “Allergen Structures” at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, and he is a member of various national and international societies and commissions concerned with this field of research. It was successfully introduced into the market by our distribution partner Th.Geyer (www.thgeyer.de ). PCRFast® is easy to use and suitable for application in the fields of microbiology/hygiene, allergens, animal identification and GMO. The tests are available with probes or for gel detection, and can therefore be used by anyone and with any PCR machine. PCRFast® - a product innovation developed by ifp, Berlin. Norovirus now detectable in faeces by means of PCRFast® Norovirus can now be detected in faeces in real time using PCRFast® hybridization probes. The CE-marked test is easy to use and yields fast and reliable results. Apart from norovirus, it also covers other parameters such as clostridium difficile A/B, helicobacter pylori, listeria monocytogenes, giardia lamblia, crytosporidium parvum, entamoeba histolytica, microsporidiae, yersinia enterolytica, camplylobacter, salmonellae and VTEC stx1/2. Our partner Generic Assays (www.generic-assays.com ) sees to the domestic distribution of the tests, while Novatec (www.novatec-id.com ) is responsible for international marketing. Antibody-based rapid tests for the detection of allergens available soon ifp is currently developing antibody-based rapid tests for the detection of allergenic substances in foods under the umbrella brand name of ImmunoFast®. These rapid tests are based on the lateral flow principle. ImmunoFast® is suitable for fast on-site detection in production as well as for initial screenings in laboratories. Results are available within a few minutes only. The tests will be available in spring and cover all the important allergens such as all types of nuts, peanuts, milk, egg, lupine and others.
